Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
As soon as you file a provisional patent application (PPA) with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, you establish an effective filing date for your invention – and you can use the term "patent pending" on it. Best of all, you'll establish proof of your claim and not pay for a full patent until you figure out whether your invention is worth the cost.

With Patent Pending in 24 Hours, you'll have all the forms and information you need to get the job done! This book will help you:

*evaluate the seven hurdles to patentability *write a plain-English provisional patent application *prepare informal drawings of your invention *conduct a basic patent search on the Internet *understand patent law principles *complete all forms required by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office *file your application using U.S. Express mail

Patent Pending in 24 Hours also includes a nondisclosure agreement, patent assignment, prototype-maker agreement and joint-ownership agreement to help you preserve your rights when showing or selling your invention.

Customer Reviews:

Review #1: Patent PENDING
2010-08-01
As so many other reviewers have pointed out, this book is called Patent PENDING. It takes readers through the steps they need to get the provisional patent, i.e. "patent pending". If you are at the stage where you need to protect your idea while you find investors and work through other issues, this is a great starting place to get the information you need to proceed with an inexpensive provisional patent to protect your idea. The next book you'll want to read is Patent It Yourself: Your Step-by-Step Guide to Filing at the U.S. Patent Office if you would like to proceed beyond a provisional patent.

Review #2: Recipe for immediate patent protection
2010-05-28
True to its "Pending" title, the book covers what you need to do to get a Provisional Patent Application. The PPA costs around $100 and is good for a year to protect your patent while figuring out whether you want to proceed to a full patent application, which costs thousands. I was able to file a PPA for my reef aquarium accessory patent so easily a couple days after reading this book. As another reviewer pointed out, get the companion book "Patent it Yourself" for more details on where to go next, as this book makes several references to "Patent it Yourself." This book fills nicely fills the need to get some immediate protection without combing through an entire library.

Review #3: A good reference but you'll need more info.
2010-04-16
This book has some good info but you will need more if you are to patent anything yourself. I'd search more before buying this book alone. I have not found one single book that covers everything needed to patent an item and get it to market.

Review #4: Buyer Beware!
2010-03-20
According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), provisional applications for patent may not be filed for design inventions.

Review #5: Not really 24hrs & Limited guide (PPA Only)
2010-02-18
I thought that I was getting a guide to patents and I should have looked at the title more clearly - "Patent Pending". So this is really only a guide to Provisional Patent Applications and the main advantage is the simplicity of the process and the ability to use a Patent Pending notice to try to prevent copying of your invention. There are a lot of references to another Nolo Press book (Patent it Yourself) so I'm trying to figure out if it was even worth getting this book. As others have mentioned, more than half the book is an Appendix with Sample PPAs.

You would also assume that 24 hrs meant that you start something today and by tomorrow you have a Patent Pending. That's not really the case. 24 hrs in the title refers to the effort that you need to put in. Every chapter has a suggested effort (hours) and it all adds up to 24. So assuming you were ready to go you'd put it three 8 hour days!
